The Haiti Outreach Fund

Haiti Outreach is a long-standing NGO operating in Haiti has committed to offering community leadership programs that leave Haitians with the tools they need to be empowered to source their own progress as a nation.

Haiti Outreach is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose principal working base is in Pignon, Haiti, located in the central plateau, and has an executive office in Minnesota, USA.  Since 1997 our partnerships and collaborations have focused on community initiated development projects in rural Haiti communities, primarily in increasing sustainable access to clean water.

Our goal is to share the responsibility of achieving our mission with both national and local Haitian governments, as well as community groups and citizens. Haiti Outreach provides training, technical and management skills, and financial assistance to create sustainable clean water projects. It is a hand-up, not a hand-out.

Haiti Outreach is a registered non-profit organization not only in the United Sates, but also with the government of Haiti and is recognized as a private voluntary organization (PVO) with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

OUR VISION

“For Haiti To Become A Developed Country”

For twenty-one years, Haiti Outreach has collaborated with communities in rural Haiti, always keeping the vision that Haiti become a developed country at the core of our initiatives.

It really can be stated that simply. It means is that there is adequate food and clean water, proper sanitation and medical care, maintained roads and electricity, and education and employment opportunities for all of the people of Haiti.

This is how we operate – this is what we do – in order to bring this vision into reality.

  • We collaborate with the people of Haiti – All are included in the conversation and partnership – neighbors, community groups, local governments and the national government in both rural and urban Haiti. Our method aims to shift the responsibility for clean water to the community and government rather than Haiti Outreach.
  • Projects are community initiated – Haiti Outreach projects are initiated by the people in these communities, not by us. Community participation and responsibility continues throughout the entire life of any project, from beginning to end, and then beyond.
  • Projects are community maintained – A crucial aspect of our clean water projects is that they are created to be sustainable on a long-term basis. Our projects are thus designed to develop Haiti, not just provide relief. Community groups use the economy, the exchange of money for services, to sustain these clean water projects so that they are not dependent on us for their maintenance and repair. Even though most people in Haiti are very poor, they contribute something to have access to clean water. Funds collected are saved by the community, supervised publicly with transparency, to be used as needed for the upkeep of their community water well.
